RUKUNGIRI- The Forum for Democratic Change party (FDC) diehard and Mobiliser Henry Mugarura, has crossed to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party after his futile struggle and efforts to have Warren Kizza Besigye Kifefe known as Colonel. Dr. Kizza Besigye to lead the country.
Mugarura who had earlier for over 20 years crossed from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party to the Forum for Democratic Change party (FDC) told Journalists during a press conference held at Rukungiri Inn in Rukungiri Municipality last week on Saturday evening that he had moved from NRM to support the son of the soil Dr. Kizza Besigye with a drive of having a president from Rukungiri district.
Mugarura a businessman in Kampala who hails from Ruhinda Sub County in Rukungiri district revealed that he had to join the struggle but over the time, things did not work as he expected. He said that he was disappointed after seeing the FDC being hijacked by other forces with other intentions which did not match with what he had seen in Dr. Kizza Besigye, a reason he cited behind his decision saying that he no longer wants to be in opposition.

He was received back to NRM by the Rukungiri district NRM chairman who is also the national security minister Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi together with other strong NRM supporters including Posiano Ngabirano the proprietor of Capital Shoppers, Martin Mwambusya, and Mugarura Kaharata who all hail from Ruhinda Sub County.
The Rukungiri district NRM chairman Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu said winning Mugarura back to the ruling party is a great achievement and foundation to foster development in the area.
Hon Jim Muhwezi said that Mugarura is an enterprising person with vast skills and experience in business management who recently revived Rweshaka SACCO in Ruhinda Sub-County. He said that now, that Mugarura is back in NRM, they will work together to drive economic growth in Rujumbura county.

In the 2021 general elections, Henry Mugarura was the strong pillar mobilizing electorates of Rujumbura constituency to vote FDC’S leaning candidate Hon Fred Turyamuhweza against the security minister Rtd Major General Jim Muhwezi Katugugu.
Mugarura’s defection to NRM comes at a time when another group of over 50 FDC diehards in Rukungiri District crossed to the ruling party-National Resistance Movement (NRM) and they were coordinated and introduced to the President by Security Minister Jim Muhwezi and Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner, Stephen Nsubuga Bewayo at Riverside Hotel in Rukungiri on 1st December 2022.
