The Kabale Chief Magistrate’s Court has charged and remanded four suspected members of a violent gang accused of terrorising residents in Kabale District.
The suspects, Mark Asasira, Smith Arinda, Kennedy Akandwanaho, and Owen Arinda alias Shakido appeared on Wednesday before Chief Magistrate His Worship Derrick Byamugisha, where they were charged with aggravated robbery, murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a felony and possession of stolen property.
Prosecution, by Kabale Resident Senior State Attorney Julie Nanjjunju, told court that on October 1, 2025, while at Kirwa Cell in Kabale Municipality, Asasira and Arinda allegedly robbed Sunday Kenneth of two smartphones, a National Identity Card, a passport, a motorcycle, a Toyota Noah, and 150 Kenyan Shillings all valued at approximately Shs 40 million.
In another incident on the same day, at Kamatojo Village, Asasira allegedly robbed Clever Osbert of a Tecno Pop 7 phone and Shs 50,000, totalling Shs 470,000, before robbing Ngororano Vian of a wallet containing Shs 21,000.
The prosecution further stated that at Makanga Cell, the accused duo robbed Loyce Kanyoro of an iPhone, an Infinix phone, and a 49-inch Samsung television set worth Shs 4.9 million, and injured her in the process. At the same scene, they allegedly robbed Stephen Natamba of a Tecno phone valued at Shs 380,000.
Tragically, the prosecution added that Asasira and Arinda, acting with malice aforethought, caused the death of Stephen Natamba, who was a security guard at Albertine Hotel.
Meanwhile, Owen Arinda alias Shakido was separately charged with receiving stolen property, specifically the 49-inch Samsung television set belonging to Kanyoro.
Due to the capital nature of the offenses, Chief Magistrate Byamugisha declined to allow the suspects to take plea, noting that only the High Court has jurisdiction to try such cases.
The four suspects were remanded to Ndorwa Government Prison until November 18, 2025, when the case will return for mention.
