BOMBO – The Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operations, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba yesterday proudly inaugurated a state-of-the-art multi-billion-dollar apartment complex and transport workshop at the esteemed Land Forces General Headquarters in Bombo.
This remarkable apartment complex, christened the “Patrice Lumumba Residence” in honor of the former Prime Minister of present-day Democratic Republic of Congo, has been meticulously designed to accommodate more than sixteen families of high-ranking officers.
In his eloquent address, Gen Muhoozi highlighted the profound historical significance of the Bombo barracks within Uganda and the broader East African region. Founded in 1906 during the era of European presence in Uganda, Bombo barracks stands as a testament to the nation’s enduring heritage.
Gen Muhoozi pledged his unwavering commitment to ensuring the comprehensive development of all military facilities across the country, emphasizing that professionalism and excellence demand top-tier accommodations.
Extending his heartfelt gratitude, Gen Muhoozi expressed profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief for their relentless dedication to fortifying the armed forces with cutting-edge facilities and modern equipment.
He also extended special acknowledgment to the exceptional leadership of the army, particularly highlighting the pivotal role played by Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the Commander of Land Forces, and his instrumental contribution to the realization of the officers’ residence and motor vehicle workshop.
Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of Land Forces, warmly commended Gen Muhoozi for his timely intervention and unwavering support. “Without your leadership, these transformative projects would have faced insurmountable challenges.
“Your involvement has not only revitalized our initiatives but also propelled critical projects like the imminent completion of the perimeter fence.” Lt Gen Muhanga remarked, reflecting the collaborative spirit that enabled these achievements.
Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, the Chief of Staff – Land Forces, eloquently assured the esteemed guests that Gen Muhoozi’s tenacity and innovative approach were pivotal in the realization of these monumental structures. He emphasized the collective responsibility of safeguarding these invaluable assets against any potential threats.
It is worth noting that the entire construction was orchestrated by the skilled engineers of the UPDF Engineers’ Brigade, a testament to their exceptional expertise and commitment to bringing these visionary projects to life.
During the event, Lt Col James Lwegaba shared insightful details, revealing that Land Forces had received a substantial allocation of Ugx 28.5 billion in the fiscal year 2020 for the ambitious endeavor of constructing 400 housing units across various formations.
He also underscored the ongoing progress of additional projects in different divisions and brigades, which are nearing completion and poised to further enhance the military infrastructure.
