The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has underscored national security, peaceful elections, and regional stability as key pillars sustaining Uganda’s democratic and socio-economic progress, citing the conduct of the 2026 General Elections as evidence of growing national cohesion.
Speaking during the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary celebrations held at the former Kabale National Teachers College grounds in Kabale District, Gen Kainerugaba said Ugandan”s voted in a calm, secure, and orderly environment, with minimal disruption across the country.
He noted that the peaceful exercise reflected increased political maturity among the electorate and effective coordination by security agencies.
He addressed concerns that had been raised ahead of the elections regarding possible violence, stating that although isolated attempts were made by criminal elements to destabilize parts of the country after polling day, security forces acted swiftly to contain the situation. Suspects were arrested and charged in courts of law, reinforcing the rule of law and deterring further unrest.
The CDF credited the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda Prisons Service, and intelligence agencies for maintaining peace and public order, emphasizing that inter-agency cooperation remains critical in safeguarding national stability, especially during sensitive political periods.
On regional security, Gen Kainerugaba highlighted ongoing UPDF operations in Karamoja aimed at mopping up illegal firearms and restoring long-term peace, which he said has begun to revive tourism and investment in the sub-region.
He also pointed to Uganda’s peace support missions in Somalia, South Sudan, and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, noting that regional stabilization efforts directly enhance Uganda’s internal security.
He further raised the issue of welfare for defence forces, stating that improved feeding, accommodation, and logistical support for officers and soldiers remains a priority.
According to the CDF, strict supervision of projects and accountability in public spending have improved service delivery within the force.
Gen Kainerugaba concluded by reaffirming the UPDF’s loyalty to the President and Commander-in-Chief, saying the army remains committed to defending the gains of the revolution, supporting Uganda’s socio-economic transformation agenda, and ensuring lasting peace.
