ICPAU Launches CPA Kigezi Network to Strengthen Regional Accountancy

KABALE: The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has inaugurated the CPA Kigezi Network, aimed at fortifying the professional accountancy landscape within the region.

The CPA Kigezi Network serves as a cohesive platform uniting registered Certified Public Accountants across the six districts of the Kigezi Sub-region: Kabale, Rukiga, Rubanda, Kisoro, Rukungiri, and Kanungu. This amalgamation encompasses a diverse spectrum of professionals including District Principal Auditors, District Chief Financial Officers, Institutional Accountants, Academicians, among others.

The official launch of the network was conducted by CPA Elizabeth Nanyama, representing ICPAU. The event, held at Kirigime Guest House in Kabale Municipality on Thursaday, also witnessed the election of leaders for the Kigezi Sub-region. Ms. Aine Sarah Kamara, the Internal Auditor from Rukungiri District, emerged as the Chairperson of CPA Kigezi Network, with Mr. Jessy Nkurikiyimana appointed as her Deputy.

Additionally, Benon Rutangana assumed the role of Treasurer, while Mr. Junior Twebaze took up the position of Secretary. Everest Tumwekwase was appointed as the Secretary for Publicity, with Justine Tushemereirwe serving as the Committee Advisor.

The elected committee further includes Geofrey Byarugaba and Cornelius Byoruganda. ICPAU’s Elizabeth Nanyama highlighted the segmentation of CPAs in Western Uganda, with the Ankole CPA Network representing the counterpart. She elucidated that the objectives of these Networks encompass various facets such as fostering professionalism, promoting the CPA course to recent graduates, facilitating access to technical services including consultancy and auditing, and assisting the community with tax computation, among others.

Following her appointment as the inaugural Chairperson of the CPA Kigezi Region Network, Sarah Aine Kamara delineated her strategic initiatives. These include expanding membership within the Network, conducting refresher training programs for CPAs, engaging in advocacy efforts, promoting the accounting profession to younger demographics, and establishing the Kigezi Regional Study Centre.
