The Isingiro District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Clare Mugumya, has urged residents of Rubanda District to rally behind independent candidate Evelyne Ninsiima Kikafunda in her bid to unseat the incumbent District Woman MP in the 2026 general elections.

Hon. Mugumya made the remarks on Tuesday during the burial ceremony of the late Josephine Mushombera, mother of the late Wilfred Murumba, in Nyaruhanga Ward, Ikumba Sub-County, Rubanda District. The late Mushombera died at the age of 85.

Describing Ninsiima as her close friend, Mugumya questioned why voters had “kept their eyes closed” to Ninsiima’s developmental efforts in the district.

She commended Ninsiima for her resilience and continued commitment to development despite losing in two previous election attempts.

“Although Hon. Prossy Mbabazi Begumisa, the incumbent Woman MP, is my sister, I believe Evelyne Ninsiima deserves a chance to lead Rubanda District,” Mugumya said. She added that she was praying for God to grant Ninsiima’s aspirations and bless her journey to leadership.

In her remarks, Ninsiima reaffirmed her commitment to promoting development across the district.

“One of the initiatives that has sparked excitement in Rubanda is the Shs 350 million Saucepans Project to support Ebibiina by’Engozi and community events,” Ninsiima said. “This project, dubbed the Distribution of Saucepans Initiative, will equip over 1,500 village burial groups with large cooking equipment to support communal functions.”

She pledged to prioritize the improvement of healthcare services, particularly targeting the reduction of infant mortality rates.

Ninsiima also revealed plans to boost household incomes through livestock donations, such as goats, sheep, pigs, and hens, in alignment with the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM), which seeks to eradicate poverty at the grassroots.

She further emphasized her commitment to promoting girl child education as a foundation for empowerment and social transformation.

Meanwhile, Rubanda District LC5 Chairman Stephen Ampaire Kasyaba revealed that the government has allocated Shs 1.8 billion to facilitate the recruitment of health workers at Rubanda District Hospital.

He added that an additional Shs 1.2 billion has been earmarked for equipping the facility with essential medical equipment.

“These investments will strengthen service delivery and improve healthcare access for our people,” Kasyaba said.

Minister of Finance (General Duties) Hon. Henry Musasizi cautioned political opportunists against sowing seeds of division between Rubanda West and Rubanda East constituencies.

He urged residents to focus on unity and appreciate the government’s equitable distribution of resources across the district.

“Divisive propaganda undermines development efforts,” Musasizi warned, calling on leaders and residents to work together for the progress of Rubanda District.
