KABALE: The Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Godfrey Nyakahuma, has instructed the District Police Commander and other security agencies to secure Kabale Main Stadium to ensure the smooth conduct of National Resistance Movement (NRM) activities planned for Liberation Day celebrations.
In a directive issued on January 21, 2025, RDC Nyakahuma revealed that the decision followed extensive consultations to resolve a standoff between the Kabale District NRM Youth League and the Kabale District Football Association, both of whom had scheduled events at the stadium on January 26, 2025.
According to RDC Nyakahuma, the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, and Hajji Yunus Kakande, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Presidency, reviewed the situation and ruled in favor of the NRM Youth League.
They emphasized that the Liberation Day celebration, organized by Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, Kabale Municipality NRM parliamentary flag bearer and Wakiso Deputy RDC, is a national event and therefore takes precedence.

Consequently, the Kabale District Football Association was advised to reschedule its planned activities to a later date.
To ensure the event proceeds without disruptions, RDC Nyakahuma instructed security agencies to safeguard the stadium.
He said that the event will be graced by the State Minister of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, David Bahati, who also serves as the NRM Chairperson for Kabale District.
The directive comes on the heels of a meeting summoned by Minister Bahati at the NRM offices in Kabale’s Central Division.
Attended by NRM committee members, sub-county chairpersons, and district councilors, the meeting unanimously decided to proceed with the stadium event, despite opposition.
The clash over the venue had sparked heated debates on local social media platforms, with supporters of both sides passionately defending their claims to the stadium.
The Kabale Municipality Town Clerk, Kasajja, had previously clarified that the Kabale Football Association had officially booked the stadium on December 16, 2024, for its Liberation Day finals, after confirming no prior bookings.

Kasajja had advised the NRM Youth League to consider alternative venues, but the league pushed forward with its plans.
