Police in Kabale District are investigating a suspected case of murder after the body of a woman, only identified as Patricia, was on Sunday morning found abandoned in the compound of Nyakijumba Catholic Church in Kyanamira Sub-county.
According to Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the body was discovered at around 9:00am on November 30, 2025.
Detectives from Kabale Police Station rushed to the scene, which was examined, processed and documented.
A sniffer dog introduced at the church compound allegedly led officers to the home of the deceased’s lover, whose house neighbours the church. The suspect is currently on the run.
“At the suspected primary scene, police observed drag marks on the ground starting from the house towards the church compound, suggesting that the body may have been moved from the house and dumped at the church,” ASP Maate said.
During a search inside the house, police recovered pieces of a mattress and a blanket reportedly soaked with suspected body fluids. These items were exhibited and sent for forensic analysis to aid the investigation.
Preliminary observations indicate that Patricia’s body may have been kept inside the house for about three days before it was dragged and dumped within the church compound early Sunday morning.
The body was later taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem to establish the exact cause of death.
ASP Maate said the suspect remains at large, but a manhunt has been launched to track him down so he can assist police with further inquiries as investigations are ongoing.
