The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Enid Origumisiriza, has asked the government to provide alternative power sources to Maziiba and Rubaya Health Centre IVs to ensure uninterrupted medical services and save the lives of patients.
Speaking during the plenary sitting on Wednesday, Origumisiriza said unreliable electricity at the two health facilities compromises blood transfusion services and sometimes forces health workers to refer expectant mothers for caesarean section operations, even when the facilities have the capacity to provide the services.
She urged the government to install adequate solar power systems or standby generators to ensure reliable electricity, safe blood storage and timely emergency caesarean operations.
The legislator said a dependable power supply would strengthen emergency medical services and reduce risks to mothers and other patients who require urgent medical attention.

She also asked the Ministry of Education and Sports to consider providing sanitary pads to girls in government schools, particularly those from vulnerable families, to address school dropout.
She noted that despite government efforts to construct schools, dropout remains a major challenge, especially among girls.
Origumisiriza said providing sanitary pads would protect girls’ dignity, boost their confidence and help them remain in school.
She urged the government to prioritise the needs of vulnerable schoolgirls to promote inclusive education and improve their chances of completing their studies.
