The political ground in Ndorwa West continues to shift as the General Secretary of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Hon. Daudi Kabanda, openly threw his weight behind Hon. Eliab Naturinda Mporera, the NRM flag bearer, describing him as the right leader to replace long-serving State Minister of Trade, Hon. David Bahati.
Kabanda, who was chief guest at separate fundraising ceremonies at Assumption Vocational and Secondary School in Rwanyena Catholic Parish and Rwancere Church of Uganda on Sunday, said the constituency needed fresh, development-focused leadership after being “stuck in one place for two decades.”
“Our country needs leaders who prioritize unity and development over division. Naturinda represents a new generation that is focused on service delivery and transformation,” Kabanda said, in what many saw as a direct swipe at Bahati’s long stay in Parliament.
The PLU boss praised Ndorwa West voters for their “courageous decision” in the NRM primaries, where Naturinda triumphed over Bahati, who has represented the constituency for 20 years.
He said the outcome showed that people were tired of recycled politics and ready to embrace leaders who would put communities first.
Kabanda further urged voters to consolidate that victory in the 2026 general elections by turning out in even larger numbers to reject Bahati’s return bid and give Naturinda a clear mandate.
“We must ensure that the will of the people is reflected at the ballot box. I urge you to turn up in full force next year and send Eliab to Parliament,” he added.
He also rallied residents to continue supporting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, whom he hailed as the pillar of peace and stability in the country.
On his part, Naturinda emphasized a project-led campaign anchored on tangible development programs, saying voters deserved solutions to their daily challenges instead of “empty political rhetoric.”
With Bahati’s two-decade grip on Ndorwa West politics shaken by his loss in the NRM primaries, Kabanda’s remarks are expected to deepen the momentum against him as Naturinda positions himself as the face of change in the constituency.
