A total of 8,560 livestock have been vaccinated against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Kamwenge District, out of a target of 210,000 animals.
The District Veterinary Officer, Dr Paul Mbago, revealed this on Monday while providing an update on the vaccination exercise.
Dr Mbago said the district received 5,440 vaccine doses in July and another 50,000 doses in August, bringing the total supply to 55,440 doses.
He said the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries was willing to supply additional vaccines if the available stock was exhausted before the exercise reached its target.
Farmers are required to pay Shs8,000 to vaccinate a cow or pig and Shs5,000 for a sheep or goat.
