Police in Kasese are investigating the death of a 19-year-old housemaid who was found hanging in her bedroom at her employer’s home.

The deceased, identified as Kabugho Sachesse, a Mukonzo and resident of Kamaiba Lower Cell in Central Division, Kasese Municipality, was reportedly found dead at about 8pm on Monday, August 10.

According to police, Kabugho was employed as a housemaid by Kibirige Issa, 57, a driver and resident of the same area.

Police said the deceased allegedly used a scarf to hang herself from the doorway to her bedroom.

“Police was informed and responded to the incident,” ASP Elly Maate, the Rwenzori East police spokesperson, said in a statement.

Police said they also recorded statements from witnesses and established that Kabugho was employed as a maid at Kibirige’s home.

The motive behind the suspected suicide remains unknown, according to police, as investigations continue.

ASP Maate urged members of the public facing challenges not to resort to suicide but to seek help from trusted people or relevant authorities.

“People should never think of taking their own life as a solution. They should share their challenges with people around them or seek services from relevant offices,” he said.

Police said inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
