Police in Kasese District are hunting for a man accused of assaulting his friend, who later died from injuries sustained during the fight.
The deceased has been identified as Bwambale Samson, a casual worker and resident of Rutooke Cell, Muhokya Ward in Muhokya Town Council.
According to police, the incident happened at about 11pm on Sunday, August 9, 2026, in Mutukula Cell, Muhokya Ward.
Police said Bwambale and the suspect, identified only as Isingoma, a casual worker and resident of Kinyabindi Cell in Muhokya Ward, had attended a burial in Mahango Sub-county earlier that evening.
Rwenzori East regional police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said the two friends allegedly quarrelled over food while at the burial.
“After the burial, as they were moving away, they started fighting. The deceased was hit on the head and fell down. As he tried to defend himself, he was again kicked in the stomach and fell down,” Maate said in a statement on Monday.
Bwambale reportedly became unconscious and was rushed to St Paul’s Hospital in Kasese Municipality, where he died shortly afterwards.
Police visited and documented the scene and recorded statements from witnesses.
Maate said efforts were underway to arrest the suspect and bring him to justice, adding that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
