Police in Kigezi Sub-region have deployed both overt and covert officers across the six districts to prevent examination malpractice and interference by unauthorised persons as the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations begin on Monday, October 12.

In a press statement issued on Sunday evening, Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime said security had been heightened at examination centres to safeguard candidates and ensure the smooth and credible conduct of the national examinations.

Tumushime said police had also deployed officers to secure Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) storage facilities in the districts and escort examination materials to and from examination centres.

He said intelligence teams had been placed on high alert to detect and prevent examination paper leakages and any attempts to disrupt the exercise.

Tumushime said police were working jointly with other security agencies, UNEB officials, District Education Officers and Resident District Commissioners to ensure the examinations are conducted in a safe and peaceful environment.

He warned teachers, parents, invigilators and other members of the public against engaging in examination malpractice, saying those found culpable would be arrested and prosecuted.

Police also cautioned the public against circulating false information and alleged examination paper leakages on social media, warning that such reports could undermine the integrity of the exercise.

Tumushime further reminded parents and other unauthorised persons that they would not be allowed to access examination centres, adding that only accredited individuals would be permitted to enter the facilities.

He called on candidates, parents, school administrators and other stakeholders to cooperate with security personnel and observe the guidelines governing the examinations.
