The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has written to the Inspector General of Government (IGG), requesting an investigation into the Shs100 million reportedly given to some Members of Parliament.
Ssenyonyi noted that when the matter first came to light, it was dismissed by some as mere “street talk” Others demanded he apologize for allegedly spreading false information about MPs, and some even threatened legal action against him.
However, he said that over time, multiple confirmations have surfaced supporting the existence of these payments.
“This payment has been widely reported in the media. While it was initially denied by the leadership of Parliament, several individuals have since confirmed it. The most recent public acknowledgment came from Hon. Twaha Kagabo, the MP for Bukoto South, who admitted on television to receiving the money,” Ssenyonyi stated.
He also highlighted that the IGG has frequently called upon citizens to assist in the fight against corruption by sharing leads and credible information.
Ssenyonyi is now asking the IGG to investigate the source of the money, identify who received it, and clarify its intended purpose.
He emphasized that his action is in response to the IGG’s call for public involvement in exposing corruption.
