The Minister in Charge of the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, has cautioned Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), Resident City Commissioners (RCCs), their deputies, and District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) across the country against what she described as bad practices, including corruption, land grabbing, divisionism, and abuse of office.
Babalanda issued the warning on Tuesday while addressing RDCs, RCCs, DRDCs, ARDCs, DISOs and their deputies during a Zoom meeting convened by the Office of the President, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Yunus Kakande, and the Head of Human Resource, Herbert Atuhaire.
She urged the officials to steer clear of corruption, land-related malpractices, internal divisions and misuse of authority, and instead take an active role in fighting corruption at all levels.
The minister further called on them to strengthen collaboration with sister agencies such as the Anti-Corruption Unit, Internal Security Organisation, and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, among others, to help citizens access justice.
Babalanda also advised officials seeking renewal of their mandates to conduct themselves professionally, responsibly and with discipline, warning against blackmail, rumor-mongering, loose talk, internal conflicts and public accusations.
“We count on your continued dedication as we consolidate peace, accelerate development and move Uganda forward in the new political term,” she said.
The minister commended the officials for their teamwork, which she said contributed to the landslide victory of 71.65 percent of the total vote for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
During the meeting, she reminded RDCs, DISOs and their deputies that the current term of office runs until the President is sworn in, noting that government business continues uninterrupted.
She therefore urged them to remain fully active in monitoring key government programmes such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, and to protect the gains already made by the government.
