Minister Bahati Highlights Government’s Strong Commitment to Youth Empowerment & Progress

KABALE – The State Minister for Trade, Industries, and Cooperatives who doubles  as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson for Kabale District, David Bahati has revealed the government’s unwavering commitment to empowering the youth and highlighted a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of young individuals in Uganda.

Minister Bahati expressed these sentiments earlier today while overseeing the meticulous organization of an upcoming event, in anticipation of the president’s imminent visit. The event is slated to take place at the spacious lower grounds of Kigezi High School Primary, nestled within the heart of Kabale municipality.

Our correspondent, who conducted an on-site visit today, bore witness to dedicated service providers diligently coordinating all logistical aspects in preparation for the main event. Erection of tents was underway, and representatives from the Uganda Police were meticulously demarcating sections of the stadium where the anticipated parade will unfold.

Bahati reiterated the robust efforts undertaken by the government, led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to bolster the youth across various sectors especially in education and healthcare, with immunization rates soaring to an impressive 96 percent. According to Bahati, the remarkable achievement has contributed to an upward shift in life expectancy, which has ascended from 41 percent in 1991 to an encouraging 62 percent for men and 63 percent for women.

Furthermore, Bahati unveiled the implementation of programs designed to uplift the youth, such as the innovative Parish Development Model whereby an impressive sum of 7.9 Billion Ugandan Shillings has already been disbursed to the Kabale District Local Government, alongside a substantial release of about 42 Billion Ugandan Shillings for the broader Kigezi Sub-region. He emphasized that 30 percent of these funds have been earmarked exclusively for empowering the youth, catalyzing their transformation.

In tandem with these initiatives, Bahati highlighted the government’s resolute commitment to a national agenda of industrialization, firmly grounded in strategies of import and export promotion to stimulate the establishment of factories in various regions, with a strategic emphasis on generating employment opportunities for the nation’s vibrant youth populace.
