The Minister of Local Government, Raphael Magezi, has cautioned sub county leaders in Rukungiri District against issuing land leases to individuals or companies without the consent of district authorities.

Speaking through Paul Oket Okello, the Commissioner for District Administration at the Ministry of Local Government, during the official relocation of Buyanja Subcounty headquarters in Buhandazi, Nyabiteete Parish on Saturday, Minister Magezi emphasized the need to protect government land and property.

“Government land must be safeguarded for public benefit. No subcounty official has the mandate to allocate it without district approval,” he warned.

Minister Magezi described the relocation of the Buyanja Subcounty headquarters as a major milestone that will enhance service delivery by bringing essential services closer to the people.

He commended Rukungiri’s political leaders, technical staff, and residents for their unity and collaboration in mobilizing resources to complete the construction of the new subcounty headquarters. He further pledged continued support from the ministry to boost development initiatives in Buyanja.
