The Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi has commissioned the construction of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Statistics House in Entebbe, describing the project as a strategic investment that will strengthen the country’s statistical capacity and improve evidence-based planning.
Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony on Thursday, Minister Musasizi said the modern facility will help Uganda meet the growing demand for reliable statistics while aligning the country’s statistical systems with international standards.
He said the office block will accommodate training hubs, innovation laboratories and a modern data centre to support research, innovation, skills development and improved data management.
The minister urged the contractor, ROKO Construction Co. Ltd, and other stakeholders to complete the project on schedule while maintaining high construction standards and ensuring value for money.
Minister Musasizi also welcomed Uganda’s bid to host the East African Statistics Bureau at the new facility, saying the move would strengthen regional cooperation in statistical development.
UBOS Board Chairperson Dr Albert Byamugisha described the project as a significant milestone for the institution and commended the government for providing the necessary funding.
He expressed confidence that ROKO Construction would deliver the project within the agreed timeframe and to the required quality standards.
UBOS Executive Director and Chief Statistician Dr Chris Mukiza said the facility marks a new phase in Uganda’s statistical development.
According to Dr Mukiza, the complex will house the proposed East African Statistics Bureau, a data centre, data science and innovation hubs, training facilities, and offices for coordinating national censuses and surveys.
He added that the investment is expected to create employment opportunities, build technical capacity, promote innovation and strengthen evidence-based decision-making across government institutions.
ROKO Construction Chairman Mark Koehler thanked the government and UBOS for entrusting the company with the project, pledging to deliver the facility safely, on time and to the expected quality standards through professionalism and close collaboration with all stakeholders.
