The incumbent Member of Parliament for Bukimbiri Constituency, Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, has condemned what he described as abusive and divisive politics allegedly being practiced by his opponents ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Kwizera made the remarks on Thursday during the launch of his manifesto at Rubuguri Town Council Playground, where he was warmly received by residents.
The event came shortly after his official nomination to contest as an independent candidate, using the clock as his campaign symbol, as he seeks to reclaim his parliamentary seat against NRM flag bearer Turyagyenda Asgario.
While addressing a large crowd of supporters, Kwizera accused his opponents of orchestrating a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his image. He urged his supporters to remain focused and reject politics fueled by jealousy, hatred, or sectarianism.
He further appealed to voters to elect leaders based on their vision and mission for the development of Bukimbiri, emphasizing the need for issue-based campaigns rather than personal attacks.

Meanwhile, Turyagyenda Asgario, the NRM flag bearer for Bukimbiri County, pledged to focus on household income improvement and infrastructure development as part of his agenda for transforming the constituency.
Speaking after his nomination at the Kisoro District Council Hall, Turyagyenda launched the NRM manifesto in Rubuguri Town Council, noting that it directly responds to the challenges affecting local communities.
He highlighted poor road infrastructure as one of the major barriers to economic growth in Bukimbiri, citing the Kasharara–Kalehe and Rubuguri–Rutaka–Nyarutembe roads among those in dire need of rehabilitation.
“Improving our roads will boost trade and ease access to markets for our farmers,” Turyagyenda said.
As the campaign season unfolds, both candidates have urged their supporters to maintain peace and engage in constructive dialogue focused on development.
