National Resistance Movement (NRM) Deputy Secretary General, Rose Namayanja Nsereko, has called on members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to actively participate in politics and leadership, saying their values and integrity are needed to strengthen governance and national development.

Namayanja made the remarks on Saturday while worshipping with Seventh-day Adventist faithful in Kalangala Town Council, where she encouraged Christians to reject the notion that politics is inherently dirty and instead view leadership as an opportunity to serve society.

She said the negative perception surrounding politics often stems from the absence of God-fearing individuals in leadership positions.

“Many Adventists fear joining politics because of the narrative that politics is a dirty game. But it becomes dirty when people who understand God distance themselves from it,” Namayanja said.

She emphasized that politics affects all sectors of society and that effective leadership is essential for the smooth functioning of institutions, including religious organizations.

“When politics is not well managed, even our religions and other institutions become disorganized. Those of us in active politics should continue preaching the gospel wherever we serve,” she added.

Namayanja praised the Seventh-day Adventist Church for its contribution to national development through education, mentorship, and character formation, noting that the church has produced leaders in various professions across the country.

“There is no church that nurtures leaders like the Seventh-day Adventist Church. We have leaders across many professions, and I personally thank the church for contributing greatly to who I am today,” she said.

Addressing the forthcoming Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament by-election, Namayanja urged residents to elect leaders who can effectively represent the district’s interests and champion development initiatives.

She encouraged voters to assess candidates based on their ability to deliver services and work collaboratively with government and other stakeholders.

“A representative who can unite with others and lobby for services and development is a better choice than one who only talks about challenges. Talking alone cannot solve problems,” she said.

Namayanja noted that leaders who maintain constructive relationships with government are often better positioned to attract development projects and improve service delivery for their communities.

She also endorsed NRM flag bearer Idah Nabayiga, describing her as a committed leader capable of working with government and fellow leaders to advance development across Kalangala District.

“I urge you to support Idah Nabayiga because she is ready to work with government and fellow leaders to lobby for services and development for all the people of Kalangala,” Namayanja said.
