The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has praised the People’s Republic of China for its consistent support to Uganda and the wider African continent across various sectors, a factor that has significantly boosted trade and development, said NRM Director of External Affairs, Maj (Rtd) Awich Pollar.

Maj. Awich made these remarks on Monday during a meeting with a delegation of leaders from the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the NRM headquarters. The meeting included some NRM cadres who had visited the CPC headquarters last year.

The delegation, led by Ms. Rao Huihoa, Director General of the International Liaisons Department, is visiting Uganda for three working days, having arrived in the country on Sunday.

“Uganda and China share a historical friendship, rooted in their joint struggles for liberation and the freedom of their citizens against imperialism,” said Awich.

“Your theme of transitioning to modernization is key and crucial for Uganda in terms of culture and mutual respect. We do not want anyone to impose their values on us as we pursue modernization in a respectful manner, free from manipulation,” he said.

Ms. Huihoa reiterated China’s firm support for Uganda’s independent exploration of a development path tailored to its domestic conditions.

The CPC also pledged to continue supporting the NRM through capacity-building initiatives, including platforms for ideological training.

“We appreciate your sharing of perspectives after your visits to China, including your learnings and proposals for the future relations between our two parties, our two countries, and China-Africa relations,” Ms. Huihoa said. “We look forward to working closely with the NRM, sharing knowledge through workshops and training.”
