The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has unanimously endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the party’s sole candidate for both party chairman and presidential flagbearer in the forthcoming elections.

In the same sitting, CEC also confirmed Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo as the sole candidate for First National Vice Chairman, cementing his long-standing position in the party’s top leadership.

NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong announced the resolutions on Friday, describing them as a demonstration of unity, stability, and continuity within the party.

“As required by the party Constitution, aspirants for top positions are vetted by CEC before their names are presented to NEC, which then forwards them to the National Conference. I am happy to report that His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was vetted unopposed, having been nominated unopposed,” Todwong said.

He added that Kigongo was also vetted and endorsed unopposed, noting that their candidatures reflected the party’s confidence in their leadership.

While Museveni and Kigongo sailed through without contest, Todwong revealed that other positions have attracted multiple aspirants.

He said the party has been encouraging dialogue and consensus to minimize competition, with some aspirants voluntarily stepping down after consultations.

Talks are ongoing between First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga and Speaker of Parliament Anita Among over the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) slot, currently held by Kadaga. Should the two fail to agree, NEC will make the final decision.

Preparations for the NEC meeting are already underway, with accreditation of NRM Members of Parliament, LC5 chairpersons, district executives, and city and municipal mayors ongoing.
