Residents of Rubanda District erupted in celebrations on Tuesday to mark the swearing-in of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who officially began his seventh term in office during a ceremony held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The national event, characterized by military rituals, constitutional procedures, and cultural symbolism, saw President Museveni take the oath of allegiance and the presidential oath before Chief Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija. The President was escorted to the podium by his daughter, Natasha Karugire, as the military rendered a ceremonial salute.
While Rubanda District NRM delegates travelled to Kampala to attend the national celebrations, hundreds of supporters in the district joined the festivities from home under the coordination of staff from the District NRM Office.
The celebrations featured a colourful motorcade procession that began in Bubare Town Council in Rubanda East and proceeded through Rubanda Town Council in Rubanda West. Boda boda riders led the convoy along the Kabale–Kisoro highway as NRM songs blared from loudspeakers, with supporters dancing and waving party colours throughout the journey.
Several residents expressed excitement over Museveni’s victory in the 2026 presidential election and his swearing-in ceremony, praising government programmes they say have transformed livelihoods in the district.
Enock Turyahebwa from Hamumba in Nyarurambi, Rubanda Town Council, together with Kyarikunda Edigarida and Lydia Tukamushaba from Ikumba Sub-county, credited President Museveni for initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, which they said has boosted household incomes and economic empowerment in the area.
