The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Female Youth Representative in Parliament flag bearer, Ampaire Dianah, has filed a petition in the Chief Magistrates Court of Hoima seeking a recount of votes from the recent general election.
Ampaire, through her legal team M/S Factum Associated Advocates, is challenging the declaration of independent candidate Kanyesigye Mercy as the winner of the election held on 6th February 2026 at Hoima City Stadium.
Kanyesigye was announced the winner with 216 votes, while Ampaire reportedly garnered 198 votes, a slim margin of 18 votes.
According to the petition, a significant number of votes intended for Ampaire were wrongly recorded for Kanyesigye, leading to an allegedly inaccurate result.
Ampaire and her polling agents reportedly raised concerns during the counting process and requested a recount, but their appeals were allegedly ignored by the presiding and returning officers.
The application, filed under Sections 74 and 77 of the Parliamentary Elections Act and supported by affidavits from Ampaire and her polling agents, seeks a full recount of all votes, issuance of a certificate of the recount, and coverage of legal costs.
Ampaire’s lawyers argue that a court-supervised recount is essential to ensure fairness and reflect the true outcome of the election.
The Chief Magistrates Court of Hoima has received the petition and is expected to hear the motion later this month.
