Ntungamo District Council has paid tribute to the late Kushaba Anthony, the district communication officer and prominent media personality in western Uganda, who died at the age of 38.
The special council session, chaired by District Speaker Ahabwe Bernard Mupenda, was held to honour Kushaba’s contribution to the district and his service to the community.
Mupenda described Kushaba as a humble, hardworking and exemplary person, saying his recognition by council demonstrated the impact he had made during his life.
He urged members of the public to live exemplary lives, noting that it was rare for council to pass a resolution in honour of a person who was not a council member.
The motion to pay tribute to Kushaba was moved by Bibiana Kakinoni, the woman councillor representing Itojo Sub-county and Nyamukana Town Council, and was unanimously supported by the council.
Kushaba’s widow, Ntegyereize Emmiry Kushaba, said they had been married for 13 years and were blessed with three children.
She described their marriage as one built on love, friendship and mutual respect, and thanked his workmates, led by Engineer Prosper Butubuura, and Ntungamo District Local Government for supporting the family following his death.
Kushaba’s parents, Albany and Mauda Mbabazi of Katooma Village, Rwentobo, Rwahi Town Council in Rushenyi County, were overcome with grief during the proceedings.
His father described Anthony as both his son and friend and prayed for his eternal peace.
Kushaba’s close friends, including Prosper Butubuura, Wycliffe Twinamatsko and Ainea Rutarya, recalled the shock of his death.
They said they had spent the night with him before becoming concerned after they failed to reach him. With the help of police, they broke into his house and found him dead on his bed.
Ntungamo District Chief Administrative Officer Kiiza Fedelis described Kushaba as a corruption-free civil servant who revived the district communication office after it had operated for 13 years without a communication officer.
Kiiza said Kushaba’s death was a reminder of the transient nature of life and urged civil servants to serve with integrity while they still had the opportunity.
Ntungamo District LCV Chairman Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba described Kushaba as a good listener, knowledgeable and patriotic to his work.
He urged civil servants to remain versatile and flexible in executing their duties so that they can effectively deliver government services to the people, as Kushaba did during his service.
Rev. Mwesiga Eliezer, the chaplain at Rwekiniro Secondary School, urged mourners to remain prepared for death, saying God can call people to His Kingdom at any time.
He was assisted by Lay Reader Mercy Atwebembeire of All Saints Church Ntungamo.
Kushaba died of heart failure and is survived by his widow and three children.
He will be laid to rest on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at his ancestral home in Katooma Village, Rwentobo, Rwahi Town Council, Ntungamo District.
