Four of the seven suspects arrested in connection with the murder and robbery of former Sports Club Villa captain David Owori have been linked to other violent crime scenes, Police have said.
The suspects—Ahumuza David, Lubega Martin, Ssegawa Francis and Munguci Elvis—are allegedly connected to the robbery of a Congolese national who was reportedly assaulted with a blunt object and robbed of a mobile phone and other property in Makindye Division on August 4, 2026, the same night Owori was attacked.
Further investigations have also linked some of the suspects to previous violent crimes. Police said Ahumuza David and Magumba Arafat have been connected to an aggravated robbery case involving Mugisha Edrisa, who was allegedly struck with a blunt object during the robbery in Makindye Division on July 31.
Owori, a former SC Villa captain, was attacked near his residence on August 4 and robbed of his mobile phone and other personal belongings before he later succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack.
Police said the recovery and tracing of Owori’s mobile phone through an intelligence-led operation led investigators to individuals suspected of dealing in stolen electronic devices, resulting in the arrest of seven suspects.
The Uganda Police force Spokesperson, Rusoke Kituuma said investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in Owori’s murder and other violent robberies reported in Nsambya, Nabisaalu and Makindye.
Kituuma meanwhile warned the public against buying mobile phones and other valuables from unknown dealers, particularly items offered at unusually low prices or whose ownership and source cannot be satisfactorily explained.
The force said the market for stolen property provides criminals with an incentive to continue committing violent robberies and urged the public to buy electronic devices from legitimate dealers and verify IMEI or serial numbers where possible.
Police also appealed to members of the public who have lost property through theft or robbery to provide proof of ownership when seeking recovery and to report suspected stolen goods to the nearest police station.
