The Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, has urged students to uphold integrity, discipline and responsibility as core values that will shape their future careers and contribution to national development.
While delivering a presentation on “Patriotism: A Weapon in the War Against Corruption” to 1,500 students undergoing patriotism training at Mbarara High School in Mbarara City, and over 900 students at Nyakasura School and Bukuku Community Secondary School in Fort Portal, Brig. Gen. Isoke reminded learners that every citizen, especially the youth, has a constitutional duty to take part in the fight against corruption.
Gen. Isoke warned that corruption steals opportunities, weakens institutions and slows national progress.
He cited common forms of corruption in schools such as examination malpractice, misuse of school resources, illegal fees, ghost teachers and absenteeism, and appealed to students to reject and report such practices wherever they occur.
He commended the Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps and her team for their dedication to nurturing patriotism among young people, and appreciated the head teachers of Mbarara High School, Haam Ahimbisibwe, and Nyakasura School, Rev. Canon Richardson Balinda, for hosting and supporting the training sessions.
Gen. Isoke also expressed gratitude to H.E. the President and the NRM government for championing patriotism as a core national value.
“It is through patriotism that corruption will be defeated. When corruption thrives, a nation loses strength; when integrity thrives, a nation rises,” he said.
He further highlighted government’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption through strong institutional and legislative frameworks.
With the country enjoying peace and undergoing rapid socio-economic transformation, he stressed that fighting corruption and safeguarding the progress made under the NRM remains a top government priority.
