The Secretary General of the Patriot League of Uganda (PLU), Fadil Twalla, has warned members against engaging in extortion, criminal activities, physical attacks and wearing military or paramilitary-style uniforms.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Twalla said PLU was firmly built on the rule of law and would not tolerate any breach of the law by its members.
He warned that members found engaging in extortion, criminal activities or attacks against fellow PLU members and other Ugandan’s would face appropriate disciplinary action.
“PLU is an organisation firmly built on the rule of law and all we do is guided by the strict tenets of the law. We will not tolerate or condone any breach of the law by any member,” Twalla said.
He also directed that no individual or group should organise, convene or announce any event, programme or activity in the name of PLU without prior knowledge and, where necessary, explicit clearance from the office of the General Secretary, the Chairman, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, or members of the Central Command.
Twalla urged members to uphold discipline, integrity and respect for the law as the organisation seeks to build a credible and respected institution.
He further called on members with grievances to use the PLU secretariat to resolve their differences, saying violence was not a solution.
“For those who have differences, the secretariat is open. We want a united PLU and I am available to receive your complaints so that we can find a way of solving them. Fighting is never a solution,” he said.
