Police in East Division, Soroti City, are investigating a suspected firearm that was reportedly abandoned at Apalatunga Bridge along the Soroti–Moroto Highway.
According to the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, Ibrahim Saiga, officers attached to East Division responded to the scene at around 9:00pm on May 7, 2026, following a report from members of the community.
A joint security team later visited the area and recovered what was found to be a toy gun improvised from elephant grass and smeared with mud. The item was documented and taken as an exhibit.
Saiga said the area is known as a crime black spot, and investigators suspect the object may have been intended for use in a planned robbery that was later aborted.
Meanwhile, police have intensified patrols in the area as investigations continue.
Saiga urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security authorities.
