ACCRA: President Yoweri Museveni has called for maximum cooperation among African people to unlock the continent’s full potential.
The president highlighted that African unity and solidarity were key factors in enabling Africans to wrest their independence from colonial powers.
“Unless we use the opportunity of independence to make bold steps toward strengthening African unity, our continent will continue to suffer from the challenges of unemployment, poverty, insecurity, and marginalization,” the president warned.
He emphasized that the ultimate goals of unity are prosperity, strategic security, and fraternity.
These remarks were delivered in a congratulatory message conveyed by H.E. Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo during the swearing-in ceremony of H.E. John Dramani Mahama at the Black Star Square in Accra, Ghana, on Wednesday.
The president further noted that wealth creators, including commercial farmers, manufacturers, and service providers, need a large market to succeed. He urged Africans to harness the vast market of 1.3 billion people on the continent.
Through unity, he argued, the survival and security of Africans would also be guaranteed on a larger scale.
“The law of nature has always dictated that the weak are enslaved. People cannot survive by the charity of others, as if they are pets such as dogs or cats. Therefore, we must guarantee our own security,” he stated.

He congratulated H.E. Mahama on his successful election and inauguration as President of Ghana.
“I congratulate you and the National Democratic Congress for obtaining the mandate to lead the great people of Ghana,” he said.
