President Yoweri Museveni has paid tribute to His Holiness Pope Francis, describing him as an extraordinary spiritual leader and a deeply respected theologian whose steadfast commitment to the faith reinvigorated the Church’s mission in an increasingly secular world.
Through a message shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, President Museveni extended his deepest and most heartfelt condolences to His Eminence Pietro Parolin and, through him, to the entire Catholic Church worldwide.
He conveyed these sentiments on behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Uganda, as well as in his personal capacity.
President Museveni noted that Pope Francis will be remembered for his profound spiritual leadership and theological insight, which inspired millions and gave renewed energy to the Church’s global mission.
He highlighted the Pope’s enduring voice for peace, social justice, compassion, and humility qualities that touched hearts across the world and brought hope to countless believers.
President Museveni also praised Pope Francis for his openness and enthusiasm in engaging with other faiths, including Muslims and Orthodox Christians.
He emphasized that such interfaith efforts reflected a true walk in the path of Jesus, as taught in the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29–37).
“His legacy of love, unity, and service to humanity will live on for generations to come,” President Museveni stated.
He concluded his tribute by expressing solidarity with Catholics in Uganda and around the world during this time of mourning, saying, “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
