President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has paid tribute to the late Hon. Amb. Kweronda Ruhemba, describing him as a dedicated leader who served with distinction in the Constituent Assembly, Parliament, and Uganda’s foreign service, consistently advancing the country’s interests.
The President’s message was delivered by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Thomas Tayebwa during Ruhemba’s final send-off held on Thursday in Ntungamo District.
In his tribute, President Museveni noted that even in retirement, Ruhemba continued to guide and inspire younger leaders.
He served in the Constituent Assembly before becoming a Member of Parliament in the Sixth Parliament, representing Kajara County, and later served as Uganda’s Ambassador to Geneva and South Africa, among other postings.
“His contribution to unity and development will be remembered. After learning of his demise, I read through the Parliament Hansard and noted his many key contributions during plenary debates, particularly on agriculture, where he pushed for policies that enabled our agricultural products to access markets,” the President said.
He added that Ruhemba, together with the late George Kanyeihamba, advocated for granting citizenship to foreigners who had lived in Uganda for a long time and owned property—an initiative that has helped strengthen investor confidence in the country.
In his remarks, Deputy Speaker, Tayebwa commended the people of Ntungamo for their strong support to the President, noting that the district gave him his second-highest vote tally in the country—over 235,000 votes, second only to Isingiro District—and overwhelmingly backed NRM candidates.
“I want to thank the President for granting an official burial to Hon. Ruhemba; he truly deserved it,” Tayebwa said.
