President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has advised local leaders in the Rwenzori sub-region to focus on one task at a time, warning that multitasking can hinder efficiency and increase the likelihood of errors.
Speaking during a leaders’ meeting at Bumadu Primary School in Bundibugyo District part of his ongoing Presidential performance assessment tour on Tuesday, President Museveni emphasized the importance of prioritization in achieving development goals. The tour is focused on wealth creation and the Parish Development Model (PDM) in the Rwenzori sub-region.
“What helped the NRM Government succeed was our commitment to one task at a time. Multitasking undermines effective management,” Museveni said. “Take border security, for instance we achieved peace through clear policy, sound ideology, and prioritization.”
The President highlighted the success of Uganda’s national army, explaining that recruitment is conducted without discrimination. Soldiers are well-trained, armed, and paid, and their children receive free education in army schools. This approach, he noted, has built a strong and impartial force that has sustained peace in the country.
On the issue of international peacekeeping efforts, Museveni expressed doubt about the effectiveness of external bodies like the United Nations in resolving Africa’s security challenges.
“How can the United Nations maintain peace in a country that isn’t theirs?” he asked. “Just as a hairstyle suits the shape of the head, solutions must be tailored to a nation’s unique needs. There’s much to be done, but leaders must learn to prioritize.”
