Tonny Mulambe, Principal Assistant Secretary in the Chancery Department at the Office of the President, has called on the public to actively engage in nominating individuals for national awards and medals, an initiative aimed at promoting merit-based recognition and celebrating genuine contributions to Uganda’s development.
Speaking to stakeholders at Kabarole District headquarters on Thursday, Mulambe emphasized that all citizens are encouraged to nominate individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the nation. He noted that nomination forms are available at the Office of the Resident District Commissioner.
Hon. Saleh Kamba, the RDC of Kabarole who chaired the meeting, stressed the need for public involvement to ensure transparency. He pointed out that an inclusive nomination process would help curb the trend of awarding medals to individuals with questionable impact.
Kamba also urged the National Awards Committee to orient medal recipients on maintaining exemplary conduct to continue inspiring the public.
Restatuta Balinda Mboijana, Kabarole’s Secretary for Works, praised the initiative as a step toward enhancing fairness and transparency in national recognition.
The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Arthur Hakiza Nzeimana highlighted the importance of maintaining a track record for nominees. He proposed establishing a local “Wall of Fame” to publicly showcase profiles of recognized achievers.
The Office of the President is rolling out this initiative in other districts, with the aim of making the national awards program more participatory and transparent.
