RWANDA: The Rwanda Defence Force Senior Command and Staff College (RDF SCSC) Nyakinama commenced the National Study Tour (NST) 2025 on Monday, running from March 31 to April 4, under the theme “Agricultural Transformation Policy towards Achieving Sustainable Security and Development.”
The tour began with a policy-level briefing at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI), where Hon. Minister Dr. Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe provided an overview of the national strategy.
The NST is a key component of the RDF SCSC curriculum, designed to develop officers who can effectively understand national policy and governance issues.
It offers students an opportunity to conduct in-depth field research on a specific national topic, aligning with the College’s objective of producing well-rounded military leaders.
This year’s study tour focuses on Rwanda’s Agricultural Policy, evaluating its effectiveness in ensuring the country’s resilience against unforeseen agricultural shocks and potential crises.
Given challenges such as disasters, climate change, and population growth, a comprehensive reassessment of the agriculture sector’s sustainability and resilience is essential.
Students have been divided into four teams, each assigned to a different province for their research.
On the first day, they visited key agricultural institutions, including the RAB Rubirizi Seed Laboratory, the RAB Rubirizi Veterinary Laboratory, the Gorilla Animal Feeds Factory, and the INYANGE Milk Factory.
These visits aim to provide firsthand insights into Rwanda’s agricultural policies and their implementation.
The NST 2025 is expected to generate valuable recommendations on strengthening Rwanda’s agricultural sector to support national security and sustainable development.
