Stephen Kasyaba Ampeire, the LC5 Chairperson of Rubanda District, has urged the district’s newly sworn-in Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to go beyond reviewing documents and conduct field inspections to strengthen accountability and improve public service delivery.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony held on Thursday at the district headquarters, Kasyaba challenged the committee members to verify information on the ground rather than relying solely on reports.
He emphasized that the committee’s role is not to identify faults for their own sake but to strengthen systems through ethical, fair, and transparent oversight. Kasyaba reminded the members that public funds must be managed responsibly and used strictly for their intended purposes.
The Chief Administrative Officer, Samuel Ahabwe also tasked the committee with promoting accountability in service delivery by demanding explanations from responsible officers and ensuring compliance with established laws, standards, and procedures.
Ahabwe urged the committee to prioritize public interest, maintain confidentiality where necessary, and base its findings on evidence rather than assumptions.
The five-member Public Accounts Committee is chaired by Cyril Itumweineho and includes Sophan Ampurire, Emmy Akandinda, Regina Katusiime Wagaba, and Marry Clemesia Akakwansa.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Chairperson Cyril Itumweineho pledged to uphold accountability while working closely with district authorities to promote good governance and the development of Rubanda District.
