Police in Kisoro District are holding a boda boda rider identified as Kamiro, also known as “Wasi Wasi,” over allegations of impersonating an officer from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and fraudulently obtaining money from members of the public.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended on Wednesday by fellow boda boda riders, who handed him over to police instead of taking the law into their own hands. The riders allege that Kamiro was part of a group posing as URA enforcement officers to extort money from boda boda operators and other members of the public.
According to the riders, the group frequently approached them claiming to be conducting URA enforcement operations before demanding money. They said the suspect had been evading them for some time until he was finally apprehended.
