Police in the Savannah Region have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of 19 head of cattle stolen from a kraal in Muhangazima Village, Ngoma Sub-county, Nakaseke District.
The animals were stolen on the night of January 19, 2026, from their owner, Tumwiine Nathan. The incident was reported at Ngoma Town Council Police Station, prompting immediate investigations.
The suspects have been identified as Gumisiriza Moses (51), Rwakyankwanzi Sam and Ssebugwawo Robert.
Following coordinated and intelligence-led operations, officers traced the stolen cattle to a farm in Gomero Zone, Ngoma West Ward, where all 19 animals were successfully recovered.
Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, Sam Twiineamazima, confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects are currently in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Twiineamazima further revealed that a third individual, businessman Ssebugwawo was initially detained after he was found in possession of three of the stolen cattle at Ngoma Cattle Market. His arrest provided crucial leads that enabled officers to track down the principal suspects.
“Further inquiries led to the recovery of seven additional cattle believed to have been stolen from other farmers. Of these, four have been formally handed over to Edward Isanga, while the remaining three, belonging to Tandeka, are being held at Ngoma Police Station pending verification and official handover procedures,” he said.
He commended community members for their cooperation and timely information, which significantly contributed to the success of the operation.
“We continue to urge the public to remain vigilant, safeguard their livestock, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” Twiineamazima added.
