The Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has called on local leaders to take the lead in driving economic transformation by encouraging communities to engage in income-generating activities.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony hosted by Lamwo District Woman MP, Hon. Nancy Acora Odonga, on Saturday in Padibe Town Council, Todwong urged leaders to go beyond rhetoric and offer practical guidance to improve livelihoods.
“We need to learn and start engaging in business and income-generating activities. Leaders must teach and motivate people to embrace entrepreneurship,” he said.
Todwong emphasized that while the government continues to invest in infrastructure such as roads and electricity, it is up to citizens to take advantage of these developments to advance their economic well-being.
“You love the NRM and the party loves you—but people don’t eat the party. The party builds roads, but you must use those roads for your benefit. For example, the main road to the Sudan border is a major business opportunity,” he added.
On party affairs, Todwong reiterated that the NRM stands for unity and inclusivity, urging long-time members to welcome newcomers.
“In the NRM, we do not discriminate. I encourage all members to embrace the new ones. Let us not allow upcoming elections to divide us,” he said.
Hon. Nancy Acora Odonga expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Lamwo for their support and trust in her leadership.
“May God bless the people of Lamwo. I thank you for the opportunity to serve. There is no way I can repay the trust you have placed in me,” she said. Looking ahead to the campaign season, she appealed for peace: “Let us be calm during the upcoming elections. It is God who chooses leaders; we only play our part.”
Also in attendance was Hon. Margaret Lamwaka Odwa, MP for Chua East Constituency, who thanked Todwong for facilitating a Memorandum of Understanding that has strengthened their collaboration with the NRM.
She also criticized the opposition, accusing them of “inciting violence and hatred by promoting divisive rhetoric.” Lamwaka encouraged constituents to continue supporting the NRM and President Museveni in the upcoming general elections.
