Police in Masaka have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Natukunda Jackline, a resident of Lukaya, and other related murder cases reported in different parts of the country.
The suspects, whose arrests followed investigations into the recovery of a human head and a headless body in Masaka District, include a 38-year-old moneylender, Kamugisha Kulaishi, and a traditional healer from Kyotera District.
According to police, the human head, wrapped in a white polythene bag, was reportedly dumped at Kako Cell along the Kako-Mukungwe Road in Nyendo-Mukungwe Division on September 29, 2026.
The corresponding headless body was later recovered from Butale Cell in Kyanamukaka.
In a statement, SP Kasirye Twaha, the police spokesperson for Masaka East and West, said investigations led to the arrest of the two suspects, with Kamugisha identified as the principal suspect.
“During investigations, the principal suspect led detectives and Scenes of Crime Officers through a reconstruction of the crime scene. He reportedly demonstrated how and where he allegedly picked up the victim from Lukaya before murdering her,” the statement reads in part.
Police further allege that Kamugisha told investigators he had been hired by the traditional healer to procure human body parts for Shs2 million, of which Shs250,000 had reportedly been paid in advance.
Investigators have also linked the principal suspect to two other murder cases reported in Nsangi, Wakiso District, and Sanga.
Police allege that the suspect disclosed that he consumed the heart of one of the victims. However, the claims remain subject to further investigation.
During a search at Kamugisha’s residence, detectives reportedly recovered a jacket, a pair of gumboots, a saucepan and other items suspected to be associated with ritual activities.
The recovered items have been secured for forensic examination as police pursue further leads in the case.
Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the murders and determine whether the suspects were involved in other related crimes.
