Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has commended President Yoweri Museveni and the people of Uganda for the successful hosting of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Dr. Motsepe’s message of appreciation was delivered to President Museveni on Sunday evening by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among.

He praised Uganda’s hospitality and organizational excellence throughout the tournament, which concluded last month.

In a message dated August 30, 2025, and inscribed on a commemorative pennant, Dr. Motsepe wrote: “Thank you and the people of Uganda for your hospitality in hosting CHAN 2024 in Kampala.”

President Museveni, while acknowledging the message, expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the tournament’s success.

“I want to thank the Local Organizing Committee, the Ministry of Education and Sports led by Maama Janet, and all stakeholders who ensured the tournament’s success. I also appreciate the supporters who turned up in large numbers to cheer on the teams,” the President added.

Uganda successfully staged CHAN 2024 in August, with matches held at the refurbished Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, as well as in Kenya and Tanzania under the PAMOJA initiative. The tournament attracted thousands of fans and was widely hailed as a milestone for Uganda’s sports sector.

The CAF President’s commendation comes as Uganda intensifies preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which the country will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.
