The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3 Infantry Division has started a refresher course for newly passed-out soldiers to sharpen their military skills and prepare them for deployment in operational areas.
The training, which is being conducted at the division headquarters in Moroto, brings together soldiers from Intake 05 who passed out on July 9, 2026, at Olilim Basic Military Training School.
The trainees were drawn from units affiliated with the 3 Infantry Division.
Speaking at the opening of the course, the division commander, Brig Gen Michael Walaka Hyeroba, described the refresher training as an important component of professional development in the UPDF.
He urged the soldiers to uphold the values and discipline of the force, protect its image and remain focused on the reasons that motivated them to join the military.
“You joined an institution which has rules and regulations, and you must know your role in the UPDF,” Brig Gen Walaka said.
He encouraged the trainees to approach the course with a positive attitude and take the training seriously, saying it would equip them with skills needed to cope with the realities of military operations.
The Division Operations and Training Officer, Col Santurino Mashereka Tumuranzye, said continuous training was necessary to ensure that soldiers remain prepared to respond to changing operational demands.
“Training sharpens military competency and strengthens strategic security partnerships,” Col Mashereka said.
The refresher course is intended to bridge the gap between basic military training and the practical demands of deployment, while reinforcing discipline, competence and operational readiness among the soldiers.
