Vice President of Uganda, H.E. Rtd Maj Jessica Rose Alupo Epel, has donated 21 bicycles to elders from 21 sub-counties and town councils in Katakwi District to strengthen National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilization at the grassroots.
The bicycles were distributed on Saturday, October 4, 2025, during a function held at Aputon Primary School, Central Ward, Katakwi Town Council.
According to organizers, the donation is aimed at supporting retired workers and elders in spearheading campaigns for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Vice President Alupo across the district.
George Israel Odongo, elder in charge of elderly affairs in Ngariam Sub-County, applauded the initiative, saying the bicycles will ease their door-to-door and center-to-center campaigns.
“We shall now use these bicycles to mobilize support for the party in every corner of the sub-county,” Odongo said.
Morulem Ben, Chairperson of Katakwi District SACCO, praised the NRM leadership under President Museveni and Vice President Alupo for supporting different categories of people.
He noted that bicycles for elders will greatly enhance grassroots mobilization and urged government to extend more support to elderly SACCOs.
Raymond Odeke, Head of the Vice President’s campaign team and NRM Vice Chairperson for Katakwi District, represented Alupo at the event.
He commended the elders for their role in past party primaries and assured them that the Vice President’s office will continue supporting elderly SACCOs for development.
“As a team, we must work with our communities to secure 100% support in the forthcoming elections,” Odeke emphasized.
The chief guest, Dr. Michael Opio (popularly known as Goal Man), Assistant RDC Katakwi, officially commissioned the distribution.
He applauded the elders for their consistent support to the NRM before, during, and after elections.
“I flag you off to begin campaigns for our National Chairman, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. I am confident Katakwi will deliver 100% support,” he declared.
Dr. Opio also urged the elders to embrace government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Programme, and UWEP, assuring them of full government backing in their mobilization work.
