The Ministry of Works and Transport has urged contractors undertaking road maintenance and improvement works in Kabale to increase their pace and maintain consistency to meet set completion timelines.

The call was made on Thursday by Eng. Racheal Ngonzebwa, the Assistant Commissioner for Road Maintenance, during an inspection of road works under Kabale Station.

The inspection covered the Kabale–Muhanga–Rubare, Rubare–Kyempene–Rubirizi, Kyempene–Rubare–Ntungamo, Ntungamo–Kafujo–Kitwe and Kitwe–Bugamba–Nyakyiraguju corridors.

Eng. Ngonzebwa noted that works were progressing steadily on several sections but cautioned contractors on corridors where the pace remained slow.

She particularly raised concern over the Rubare–Ntungamo–Kitwe corridor, which she said was advancing at a slower pace compared with other sections.

She urged the contractor to increase effort to avoid delays and ensure the works are completed within the agreed timelines.

On the Kabale–Muhanga–Rubare corridor, the inspection team assessed ongoing road improvement and maintenance works, including drainage and storm-water management measures aimed at controlling erosion and runoff.

Slope protection and stabilisation works are also being undertaken at sections characterised by steep terrain, while construction equipment has been deployed to support the works.

The inspection team assessed the road surface, ongoing interventions and areas requiring additional attention to improve road safety, durability and connectivity.

The inspection followed a stakeholder engagement meeting with Kabale District Local Government, where road network challenges, priorities and areas requiring intervention were discussed.

The team said the exercise would help document challenges on the ground and strengthen follow-up on road works across the region.

Continuous monitoring will focus on improving the pace and quality of works while ensuring timely completion of all road sections under Kabale Station.
