Businessman, social commentor and former Kampala Central MP aspirant Abraham Luzzi has sparked debate after claiming he was ignored and denied greetings at Kibuli Mosque in Kampala because of his support for President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Luzzi’s claims have raised questions about whether political affiliations are increasingly influencing interactions at religious institutions, with the prominent Muslim site now at the centre of a debate over politics and religion.

The businessman also questioned whether Kibuli Mosque was becoming a stronghold for the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), suggesting that political differences could be affecting how worshippers are treated.

His remarks have attracted mixed reactions, with some people criticising the NRM over what they describe as its past treatment of Muslims, while others have urged Ugandans to keep politics out of places of worship.

The debate has once again highlighted the growing intersection of religion and politics in Uganda, with calls for mosques and other religious institutions to remain welcoming spaces for believers regardless of their political affiliations.

However, Luzzi’s claims about being snubbed at the mosque have not been independently verified.
