The incumbent District Female Councilor for Mugyera-Habuhutu and Kashaasha Town Councils in Rubanda District, Adrine Tumuheirwe Tibenda, has pledged to prioritize extending water supply to hilly areas, improving infrastructure in government-run social services particularly schools and spearheading other community development projects.

Tumuheirwe made the commitment following her declaration as the winner of the long-awaited election held on Tuesday. The National Resistance Movement-NRM flag bearer successfully defended her seat.

The election, initially scheduled for 22nd January 2026, had been suspended due to a shortage of ballot papers at polling stations. It was subsequently rescheduled for 4th February 2026 and concluded yesterday.

At a ceremony announcing the results at the Rubanda District Rukiiko Hall, Returning Officer Medard Nteziyaremye revealed that Tumuheirwe secured 1,819 votes, defeating her closest rival, independent candidate Jacenta Mukamariho, who garnered 1,420 votes, and another independent candidate, Jesca Niwamanyire, who received 111 votes.
