MBARARA: The Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese, His Grace Lambert Bainomugisha, has banned the operations of the Uganda Martyrs Lay Apostolate, also known as Bakaiso devotion, within the Archdiocese.

In a circular dated May 28, 2024, addressed to the clergy,Religious and Lay faithful, Archbishop Bainomugisha expressed concerns about the beliefs and practices of the devotion, citing its interference with the Catholic faith, pastoral ministry, and Christian life in some parishes.

Archbishop Bainomugisha cautioned pastoral coordinators and agents in the Archdiocese against embracing the Bakaiso movement without proper study and approval.

He directed pastoral coordinators to prevent the recruitment of new members into the devotion until further notice.
