In his homily, the Chancellor of Kabale Diocese and Secretary to the Bishop, Rev Fr Placid Mugumya, urged Christians to remain compassionate and selfless, saying genuine discipleship is demonstrated by serving others even in moments of personal hardship.

Drawing from the Gospel account of the feeding of the 5,000, Fr Mugumya said Jesus chose to respond to the needs of the crowd despite grieving the death of John the Baptist, offering a powerful example of sacrificial love.

He challenged Christians not to allow personal struggles to prevent them from showing kindness to those in need.

Fr Mugumya also encouraged believers not to despise the little they have, saying God is able to multiply small gifts offered in faith.

Referring to the miracle of the five loaves and two fish, he noted that while the disciples saw scarcity, Jesus transformed the limited resources into an abundance that fed thousands.

He urged Christians to use their talents, resources and opportunities faithfully in God’s service, emphasising that no contribution is too small when entrusted to Him.

Fr Mugumya further called for teamwork in ministry, noting that although Jesus performed the miracle, He involved His disciples in distributing the food, demonstrating that God invites His followers to participate actively in His mission by serving their communities and supporting one another.

He encouraged the faithful to embrace lives of compassion, generosity and service, expressing confidence that God blesses and multiplies every sincere effort made for the benefit of others.
