KABALE: Hon. Sophie Safina Kenyangi, the National Chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, has urged Muslims to embrace the Parish Development Model (PDM) program aimed at alleviating poverty.
She made this call on Sunday during the closing ceremony of the 3rd Women’s Seminar, themed “Educate a Woman, Educate the Nation,” held at the Kabale Muslim District Headquarters in Kirigime Ward, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.
The seminar, which ran from August 30th to September 1st, aimed to empower women in religious, social, and economic spheres. Kenyangi emphasized that the government has established programs like the PDM to address poverty.
However, she acknowledged the Muslim community’s concerns about the interest aspect, which contradicts Islamic teachings.
She clarified that the President had assured her that the percentage in question was for service, not interest.
Kenyangi also challenged the Kabale Muslim District Council to adopt data processing for more effective job lobbying and urged the public to remain vigilant about Monkeypox and to promote unity regardless of religion, status, or tribe.
Enid Origumisiriza, the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament hopeful, emphasized the importance of responsible parenting and identifying children’s talents.
Hajji Isa Tindyebwa, Chairperson of the Kabale Muslim District Council, stressed the need to improve household incomes at the family level.
Kansiime Halimah, Secretary for Women and Children Affairs, highlighted the necessity of refresher courses and involvement in socio-economic transformation.
